This is one of the coolest things the Wrangler has come across! Snow Biking.
From the description of the video below: It’s not snowmobiling, and it’s definitely not motocross. It’s called snow biking, and it might be one of the coolest up-and-coming sports out there. The concept is fairly simple: take a regular motocross bike, slap on a snow mobile track and a front ski instead of wheels, and voilá…you’ve got a snow bike. To check out this new sport, pro freestyle motocross rider Ronnie Renner set out to test out the bike himself in some fresh Idaho powder. Needless to say, we think they’re definitely onto the next big thing. Check out some top moments from their session!
This video was posted in 2015. Perhaps the sport has taken off in the last ten years; the first page of a Google search shows three snow bike conversion companies. These companies sell kits to convert dirt bikes to snow bikes: replacing the front wheel with a ski and the rear wheel with a track. The conversions from dirt to snow and back look fairly easy. It’s possible to ride all year in all conditions!
Snow biking in 2025 also refers to something like a mountain bike with skis instead of wheels that is ridden downhill. For the purposes of this post, snow biking definitely refers to a motorized, converted dirt bike.
Ronnie Renner from the video refers to himself as a “free rider”, basically an adventurer on two wheels, usually a dirt bike. The video details how accessible the backcountry (where allowed, of course) is on a snow bike and how much fun can be had on one of these machines. Winter adventure at its best! As you’ll see, there is also a racing option for those interested that is something like motocross racing on a wheeled bike.
Enjoy!
